Laser Safety for Clinics & Salons

Lasers and intense pulsed light (IPL) equipment are used for a wide variety of treatments within clinics and beauty salons. To use this technology effectively and safely a high level of skill is needed.

Are you using a Class 3B or Class 4 Laser, or an IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) in your clinic or salon to offer any of the following treatments?

  • Acne
  • Hair reduction
  • Red veins and blemishes
  • Skin rejuvenation
  • Surgical procedures
  • Tattoo removal
  • Etc

If so your clinic or salon must have the following produced by a Certificated Laser Protection Adviser (LPA):

  • Risk Assessment
  • Local Rules

All clinicians and therapists using Lasers and IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) equipment must have training as follows:

  • Core of Knowledge Safety Training
  • Manufacturer / Clinical Training

Treatment aspects of laser & IPL safety to be considered include:

  • Contra-indications
  • Delicate anatomy / inappropriate treatment sites
  • Drug-induced photosensitivity
  • Eye damage
  • Hyper-pigmentation
  • Hypo-pigmentation
  • Purpura
